A Host Family Reflects on 12 Years with On Goal

Updated: Nov 16, 2019

On Goal partners with churches throughout the USA, the UK, and Brazil. It is a model that we have found has the greatest impact to spread the love of Jesus in a variety of ways both within the church and as an outreach to the community it serves. Summer staff coaches learn much about working with people they may have never met previously and often establish lasting relationships with those who welcome our team and ministry into their lives for a week each year.

Denny and Tammy and their family are some of those special people whose hospitality, enthusiasm, and personal interest in the lives of all involved, inevitably, make for a meaningful camp and friendships for life.

“For the past 12 years, my wife Tammy and I have had the privilege of being On Goal camp coordinators at our local church. What started as a camp of 40-50 kids in the early years, has grown into a camp of over 100 kids each summer. On Goal has had a tremendous impact on our lives as a family and as a local church. We have watched the On Goal staff help our youth grow and develop as soccer players, but more importantly, help them grow and develop into the person God is calling them to be. On Goal has taught us how sport can be used to further the gospel. As sports are often a huge part of a young person’s identity, On Goal uses soccer to come alongside our youth and point them to Jesus. In fact, we have many former campers that are now in high school who come back each summer to play in a scrimmage game against the On Goal coaches simply because they love the staff and have such great memories of camp."

“Personally, On Goal has had a huge impact on our family. On Goal has taught Tammy and me how to partner in ministry and how to partner with church members who volunteer. It has taught us how to come alongside others and each other.”

“It has deepened our walk with Christ and On Goal has exposed our children to people from all over the world through their diverse staff. We have also been blessed to watch our son go from camper to staff member and watch him develop as a coach and stretch him in sharing his faith.”

“Our daughter has made numerous friends and looks forward to having a house full of coaches each summer. Finally, it has allowed me to renew old friendships and develop new ones with people who are passionate about soccer and Jesus. God bless On Goal.”
