In 2005 a Judson College student named Wanina joined the On Goal summer coaching staff. She loved coaching and sharing with the kids and decided that she wanted to bring On Goal to Brazil.
In 2007, Wanina and her husband Vanio Robeiro launched the On Goal Brazil Project. Based in Campo Grande, Wanina and the On Goal staff read the bible, teach English and play Futsal with 140 participants each week.
Below is a report from project director, Wanina Robeiro.
English classes are wonderful! the kids learn with much desire and passion. They love when the teachers in schools complement them because of their English. They are improving so much. Khristy and Ruani teach English as well. They are so good with the kids.
Soccer is going great! The u15’s participated in a big tournament in Santos last week and did well in the competition. Vanio is responsible for that group. It is the first time we were able to take them into a big competition. We get support from a few parents and from the government. The U8 and U9 players are now competing in a local tournament and made it to the final!
Today, Juli, my two year old daughter, and I went to visit two On Goal families which are going through some hard times financially. We took 50 breads that the church gave us. They were so happy because they did not have anything to eat. Each family has 6 kids, and they live in a really poor area. I invited them to church and prayed with them.
A mother came to the court just the other day, crying, thanking the On Goal staff for everything we teach the kids because her 12 year old son loves to talk about Jesus and reads the bible to her at home.
A father told me that his 9 year old son prays in his classroom at school before class starts. And he is very thankful for the On Goal Project.
